Project Completion Report

Title of Project: Write a 50-page book draft

Abstract of Project: I wrote a 50-page draft of a book in order to learn the creation process that an author uses. This helped me to gain experience that helped me learn in my field of study. The Creativity track was the best choice to support my project for the following reason: books are born from creativity. This project set me apart from others in my major because it allowed me to gain real life experience before entering my field.

Changes to Deliverable: There were no changes in the deliverable of what was previously stated in the project proposal.

Project Goal: For my EDGE Project I wrote and edited the first 50 pages to get a second-draft of a book. I group work-shopped several of my pieces when the opportunity was available and did the rest of the revisions on my own. I compiled the pieces into a collection and divided them by type to get a sectioned book.

Outcomes:

  1. I planned out short stories for a book, so I learned how to prepare to write a rough drafts of flash nonfiction and longer fiction.

  2. I edited my rough drafts, so I could have practice revising and improving my work.

  3. I edited the book of drafts, so I gained experience with the creation process of an author.

Deliverable(s): I provided a copy of my second-draft “finished” project along with scanned passages I edited by hand and any notes I wrote along the way. I uploaded PDFs of the notes from several workshops and my own personal notes along with the first draft of the book. This proved my process by providing samples of what I had originally written and what I planned to revise in them. There were NO CHANGES found in my deliverable than what was previously planned.

Proof of Deliverable: Attached is the fifty-page draft I have written. It took me much more than the forty hours I originally estimated it would take, and I still plan to add to and edit it, but the first draft is done.

Proof of Process: Attached are three sets of PDFs of scanned pages of my editing notes. Included among them are the critiques and suggestions of peers that helped me with my work. Seeking out critiques from others wasn’t originally an editing strategy I expected to use but having outside opinions made my work a lot more rounded.
